Don't Kill the Sheep Buck!
Told by Floyd Ott
Written by Don Schmitz

Grandpa Floyd loves to entertain his grandchildren by telling the story about the sheep buck and the goat.

On his farm they had cats, dogs, goats, cows and sheep. Floyd was deathly afraid of two animals; a male sheep buck and a goat. The sheep buck was named August and the goat was called June.

One day, August and June got in a big fight in the yard. Floyd saw them fighting and was scared they would hurt each other, not to mention himself but he attempted to get in the middle anyway. Each time he got close, either June or August would butt him and knock him down. Finally, Floyd's older brother came out of the house and started pulling the animals apart.

While this was all happening, Floyd's mom and dad came driving in the yard with their horse and buggy. Their first impression was that Floyd and his brother were trying to hurt the animals. Floyd's dad started screaming and yelling, "Don't kill the goat! Don't kill the sheep buck!" It was only after that Floyd's dad realized what really happened.

Even adults sometimes misunderstand and make mistakes.
