Planting the garden
Told by Laurie Ott
Edited by Don Schmitz

For as long as she could remember, Grandma Ott planted her garden in the spring. As she got older, she asked her grandchildren to help.

They would plant the potatoes, corn, peas and finally the melons. It became an annual event that the grandchildren always looked forward to.

One day, as spring was approaching, she heard a knock on the door. When she answered it, her smallest granddaughter Gretchen was standing there. Grandma Ott invited her in for milk and cookies and started to make small talk with her. "So, why did you come to see me today?"

“Well,” said Gretchen, "I want to know if we can go out and plant some "food" now?”
