SUBJECT:   Generations in Motion- Summer Fitness & Fun for Grandparents & Grandkids!

Grandkidsandme, a non-profit organization dedicated to building strong families through intergenerational relationships, is pleased to announce its 2008 summer program:  Generations in Motion (GIM).  Designed to help grandparents and grandkids build and enhance their relationships, GIM also promotes physical fitness and will raise money for the Grandkidsandme Foundation.

We believe no one is too old, too busy, or too out of shape to enjoy a little fresh air and exercise with their grandchild--even if it means Susie is pushing grandpa’s wheelchair around the block!

So, beginning on June 1 and culminating in a Grand Family Fun Day on September 13, teams of grandparents and grandchildren will team up in order to walk, ride, swim, skate, golf, or do any type of physical activity they decide on.  After registering, the “team” will set a time or distance goal for their activity, determine when they will perform their activity, and then secure sponsors who will support them with a financial pledge.

The money raised will:  1) Defray the costs of participation in “Grandparent Camp" for grandparents and grandchildren who would otherwise be unable to attend, 2) Support Educational Outreach activities which support and build intergenerational relationships; and 3) Support the 2009 Minnesota Grandparent Awards Program.

A number of non-profit organizations and community businesses are supporting Generations in Motion™ as sponsors, including Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota, who is co-sponsoring Grand Family Fun Day, September 13 at St. Paul’s Midway Stadium.  On that day, we’ll celebrate with bouncing houses, face painting, sports clinic, kid's dash, classic car show, tailgating, food and entertainment.

To sign up, or for more information, go to www.grandkidsandme.com or call 651-695-1988.

SUBJECT: The New Face of Grandparenting...Why Parents Need Their Own Parents, (Grandkidsandme, 09741710-0-x)

In the September issue of the San Diego Family Magazine,
Sharon Taylor-Huppert writes, "Schmitz’s well researched book is right on target when he asserts that today’s families are overwhelmed and out of touch with each other."

In a personal note to Don, she wrote, "I love your book and refer to it a lot. Also, I've recommended it to  many friends. Every so often a really good one comes along; it's like hitting the jackpot! Nice work and best of luck!"
Sharon is an award-winning writer, book reviewer and mother of two.

Most recently, The New Face of Grandparenting has received very positive reviews from Bob Drago, professor of Work Family Relationships at Penn State University and Lizette Collado from El Hispano News.

The New Face of Grandparenting supports and identifies the changing role of grandparents and why parents need help in our unstable demanding culture. Don advocates the value in parents turning to the larger community for help as mentors for their children.

Each chapter offers infant wisdoms and real life family stories, as well as practical ideas and suggestions for parents and grandparents to foster relationships. The New Face introduces vocabulary that describes the change in our society: Salad Bowl, the 4 L's of Relationships and Grand Relations.

Don is a well-known writer and speaker on family and Grandparenting. He is the founder of Grandkidsandme®, The Grandkidsandme Foundation, Grandkidsandme Camps and Grandkid Days®. The recipient of numerous awards in teaching and business, Don holds graduate degrees in Education, Administration and Human Development.
